Headband Headache
I love headbands but am so picky about the kind that I can wear. You know....the pounding headache that starts behind your ears because your fashionable head wear is pinching. I just can't do it anymore. I have found the above kind are great because they are jelly and flexible. Plus, it's metallic. I am a total sucker for anything with a little bling on it.

My new stove
Maybe this is what I should make for dinner tonight on my new fancy stove!!!Yum! Capers and chickpeas tossed in whole wheat pasta.
Since we are expecting snow this weekend. Here's a nice summer recipe for a
great variation of pesto. How I long to summer to arrive.
Citrus Pesto
1 bunch fresh basil - stemmed (about 3 cups)
1/2 pine nuts, toasted
1 clove garlic
1 lemon, zested and juiced
1 orange, zested and juiced
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 cup grated Parmesan
Blend all ingredients except EVOO and Parmesan. Then stream in the olive oil until creamy. Transfer to bowl and stir in Parmesan cheese.
Would be yummy slathered on a piece of fish or mixed in with some pasta and roasted veggies.
I am starving!

Sunshine

This dress makes my heart flutter! I can't wait until 80 degree days are merely more than a once a week occurrence. This adorable dress just screams springtime. With freshly painted red toenails and some bright turquoise sandals. Too bad pretty much every shade of yellow looks terrible on me. Alanda, this would look great on you! You should go buy it :)

This ain't your 80's jumpsuit
I have always been attracted to this look. Much like a one piece swimsuit, I have never really been able to wear it. Some things are just not made for people with a long torso. I was reading InStyle last night and there were two whole pages devoted to the modern jumpsuit. I love it. I am all for anything that looks dressy, yet feels like pajamas. However, I think I would have my pants cropped off and pair them with a chunky wedge. Maybe, I need to go try on this ensemble. Would be perfect for dinner on the beach :) T-minus 69 days!

Goodbye crooked tie

My husband's tie is always crooked. Please see above. It drives me nuts. So, I got on the web and found the most amazing video that teaches you how to tie a Double Windsor knot. I am now his Julia Roberts. His Pretty Woman, if you will. I have mastered the art of tying a perfect looking knot. Both the hubby and his father's necks will don a straight tie from this day forward.

Pedicure weather is upon us........
Payless has the best shoes right now. $15 bucks....I had a coupon. I got these last night and I love them. They are a faux suede. The color in this particular photo is terrible. Mine are more of a bright turquoise. I am going to pair them with a black maxi dress and a chunky turquoise necklace. I can't wait for the weather to stay warm.
Just your typical Thursday evening
Last night I was leisurely shopping at Target on North May. I was in an isle looking at ways to become more organized and there she was......standing by the hangers. Mrs. Wayne Coyne. So naturally, I did what most would do in my situation and followed her! I needed to get a peek in her basket. What does the wife of a famous rock musician purchase at Target? I am not sure what I expected. It was totally normal everyday merchandise. I, on the other hand, was forced to examine what I was carrying (not pushing in a cart)....a lantern, Q-tips and a bathmat. Odd combination. We are alone in the "outdoor accessories" isle and my phone rings. Normal in any other instance. Husband calling (who has no idea where and what I am doing) and his ringtone happens to be "Do You Realize?" Mortified. I then have to set all my merchandise down in the middle of the isle to dig for my phone, which is becoming increasingly louder. It was one of the moments where you just want to die. She looks at me and smiles, but what she's really thinking is that I am a total stalker. I am whispering to Z that I need to call him back. He doesn't know what I am doing, therefore doesn't understand why I am whispering. The experience has gone downhill fast.....ABORT, ABORT! Star struck, yet again.

Spring Cleaning
I cleaned out my closet last week. I got home from work and was in one of those moods. The throwing out/getting rid of/spring cleaning mood. I have been like this for weeks. My husband is about to go nuts. Every time he turns around I am organizing a different part of the house. A closet, a drawer or some nook or cranny that has mass amounts of stuff crammed in it. I love the feeling of accomplishment I get after getting rid of unnecessary junk. It is quite shocking how much we have accumulated in a little less than three years of marriage. We are far from the "bare essential" kind of people. I opened up a box last week that had a ventriloquist doll in it. Seriously? I was forbidden to throw it out. **Sidenote: this is why our house is busting at the seams. I am not allowed to throw out any of Mr. Nash's collection of crap.** The doll is just creepy. Like the ones that come alive and then kill you in your sleep.
My closet was in desperate need of some attention. It is so hard for me to get rid of clothes. I am the type of person that attaches memories to articles of clothing. I still remember what I wore on my first date with my husband. Consequently, I still have the shirt, jeans and shoes because I can't bring myself to let them go even thought I know I will never wear them again. I always think, "I might wear that when I go to........" But the reality is I never will. So, I ceased the moment and stopped overanalyzing and just got rid. Three piles. Garage sale, Goodwill and Consignment. I have a feeling three piles will quickly become two. Two years ago when we had our 1st garage sale, I was insulted when these women would come up and ask me if I would take 50 cents for a shirt I knew I have paid big bucks for. I would say.... "You know this is designer, right?" I am sure I sounded snobby to them and I know they could have cared less. I finally sold all my clothes to this young mother who took everything remaining and gave me $25. As I packed everything up for her, I seriously felt sick at my stomach. Then I realized, she needed these clothes far more than I did and I felt so much better. So, here is the finished product. Looks tons better and I still have plenty to wear :)

50th Anniversary

In honor of her golden anniversary, I decided to dig out my Barbies and reminisce. My mother gladly brought them as she has been trying to get me to take all my stuff for the past few years. Barbies were a huge part of my younger years. I could play with them for hours and hours. Dress them and fix their hair. So, here they are.....in all their glory. Several things I should mention. I kept them in the clothing I found them in. Basically, I decided not to change them because I thought it would be a more authentic depiction. I also found concert tickets and a check (that I had made) in one of the gold purses. My husband and I were dying laughing. Even back then I had to have the perfect clutch to match Barbies outfit. And lastly, the cowboy boots that are worn with what appears to be a seafoam green evening gown. Classy! Happy Birthday, Barbie!

Andrew Bird
I cannot stop listening to this album. It's so good. Last week my good friend sent me five of his albums. I have only made it through two so far, but Noble Beast has been my favorite. This guy is super talented. I love the combination of violin and whistling. Give him a listen or better yet.....he's coming to Cain's on March 17th!Friday, February 27, 2009

Twitter seems to be the new black. I certainly have become a little obsessed. It really is a fun way to keep up with your friends day to day activities and whereabouts without the invasive nature of Facebook or even Myspace. Which frankly, I have grown sick of. Tons of businesses "tweet" which I think is incredibly smart. Appealing to a younger demographic of people. I mean you can follow Zappos, Whole Foods, The City of Oklahoma City (a shameless plug) and even Edna's and her famous lunchboxes!

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Is tomorrow night. I have eagerly anticipated this for an entire year. I wasn't thrilled with some of the stuff I picked up last year (no offense to any people who suggested certain books). Just nothing I really wanted to sink my teeth into. Hey, I still only spent $20 and it helps a good cause. This year I am redeeming myself.
List of what I am looking for. Check.
Suitcase on wheels. Check.
Ticket. Check.
Friends who are on the lookout for a good find and are willing to throw an elbow or two to get it. Check, check.
It's a total adrenaline rush. All those books just sitting there....waiting for someone to scoop them up and take them home. I can't look through them fast enough. Totally overwhelming and chaotic. Normally, I hate that kind of environment. For some reason, I love this. To find that one book you have been searching for and only spend 50 cents or a dollar on it.....there is something so gratifying about that.

Mardi Gras themed Bunco night

Last night was my first time to play Bunco. I must say I was pleasantly surprised how fun it was. I am more of a cards person and tend to be fairly competitive. This is a game of pure luck and no strategy. Everyone needs to participate in something like that every now and again. You even get the opportunity to walk away with a few extra dollars in your pocket.

Nights in Rodanthe
I watched this movie on Saturday night. Seriously, one of the worst movies I have ever watched. Save your 5 bucks and rent something else. My gag reflex got quite the workout. Super cheesy. I should have known. Being that the movie was adapted from a Nicholas Sparks book (which are hit and miss). I love Richard Gene. He is a handsome older man. But this was just too much. My biggest regret....making my poor husband suffer through this dreadful movie with me. He stuck it out. To quote En Vogue: "Whatta man, whatta man, whatta mighty good man!"

Conversation with a 5 year old
Our five year old neighbor came over to sell us some stuff and raise money for his school. Of course, I can never say no. He came inside with his Mom and Dad and was immediately drawn to the Valentine's Day gift I have just received from my mother-in-law. He quickly pointed out that I was on the left and Z was on the right. "Ya know, because you're taller." His exact words.Happy Valentine's Day, lover. I like you just the way you are.
Fire!!

The Nash household had an interesting evening last night. We had a small electrical fire about 11pm. The good men over at The Village Fire Department came to give everything the once over and make sure there was no electrical damage (more fire) in the wall. All is well aside from being a little frazzled. Lessons to be learned: 1. We suck in pressure situations. 2. We need a fire extinguisher.

You be the judge.....
Option #2We have a newly redecorated & rearranged bedroom at home. The only thing lacking attention is the space above the bed. It needs something large. Here are two different ideas I found. I love them both and can't decide. Both would work nicely in the room and blend well with what I already have on the other walls. So, I employ your help. Which would you choose? I will take your opinions into consideration and then present the results to the real judge....the husband.

The Return of Adolescence
The mother of all pimples is having a party on my face. Not to be dramatic, but this sucker is big. It doesn't seem to be getting any smaller after five days. I have doctored it and nothing seems to help. It is partially on the bottom part of my lip and painful...which makes wearing lipstick and eating rather difficult.
Conversation I have last week with my mother.
Me: I hate this weather, my skin is so dry. Moisturizer doesn't even help.
Mom: Maybe, you should make an appointment with a dermatologist.
Me: Nah, I never get acne anymore. I doubt that will help.
It's like all the underground pimples heard me and decided to show me whose boss! I wore a ridiculously obnoxious floral shirt yesterday in hopes of distracting people from looking at my blemish (which is much too dainty of a word for what I got going on). I do not think my plan worked.

Weekender bag
How cute is this bag? Perfect for a short overnight trip where you don't need to take much. I usually don't care for Jessica Simpson's purses so I was surprised to see this was part of her line. Makes me want to take a trip. Maybe it will mysteriously show up for me as a Valentine's Day gift...hint, hint Mr. Nash. Especially since I noticed it is on sale at Dillard's.

Video of the Year
I cannot take credit for stumbling across this. Excellent video. Give it a chance. It's only a little over 3 minutes.
I hate trains.
What is up with Oklahoma City running the blasted trains in the morning when people are trying to get to work, at lunch when people are hungry and during rush hour when people want to go home? It is just annoying! I can count 21 other hours in the day that they can use the railways to transport stuff. There have been days when I have been caught all three times. Today, on my way back from lunch there was a train on the tracks (Western & Britton) just sitting in the middle of the road. Not moving. Honestly, I was patient for about the first five or so minutes and then the whole thing just started to make me angry. So, of course I called my husband to complain. He quietly listened and then closed with this....."Gee, hope no one got hit!" Nice, thanks. Now I feel bad.

BarBar Eco 8000 Blow Dryer

My hairdryer is on the fritz. Actually, I think it is about to die. I secretly think my husband has been plotting the death of my beloved hairdryer for quite some time. He hates that thing. Or rather, hates that I use it and then leave it sitting on top of the toilet seat everyday. We have what you would call a very small bathroom from the 1950's - decked out with pedestal sink (pretty but completely non-functional), turquoise ceramic tile and no counter space. Kind of leaves a girl who loves makeup and hair products in a bit of a pickle. Which leaves the commode as my main place to put things. When you stop and think, it's sort of gross. I bought this "hairdryer holster" from a home improvements magazine. It's still in the box a year later. I am just not sure where to hang it. Plus, what happens when company comes over and you want to put everything away.....there the holster hangs completely empty. Maybe, this bad boy will solve all my problems. 1000 watts of Eco-friendly, cordless magic. Saving the environment and my marriage :)

Confessions of a Shopaholic

I eagerly await the release of this movie! February 6th cannot come quick enough. I have watched the trailer so many times.....I am actually afraid the movie won't be funny when I finally see it. I was reading InStyle magazine last night and there was a whole page devoted to this movie - complete with photos and designer information. The pink Zac Posen dress Isla Fisher wears is simply to die for. Patricia Fields is a fashion genius! She belts everything. I guess if I had a closet full of vintage belts, I would wear one every day too! My guess, the movie contains at least one Birkin bag.

Score

I can't stop smelling my hair. Seriously, people at work are starting to give me funny looks. This shampoo and conditioner are AWESOME! I can't believe Paul Mitchell hair products are still around. Anyway, let me just post the words that convinced me to impulse purchase.
The soothing fragrance of lavender and the fresh notes of tea tree and mint will make your scalp tingle with glee. This hydrating duo will also calm unruly locks (which I totally have!) and moisturize coarse ones, and is safe enough for color treated hair.
It's like this shampoo was made specifically for me!

Project Runway

I miss you! When will you return? You were the one show I looked forward to watching every week. Heidi, Nina, Michael....hurry back soon.
I decided to look around on the world wide web for Leanne Marshall. I was so happy that she won last season. She has a new site. I am pretty sure every girl wishes they could sew like she can. She is incredibly talented.

Stocking stuffers
I really enjoy hot tea. So being the thoughtful husband he is, this was in my stocking. Either this was his attempt at a really bad joke, or his subtle hint that I need a major attitude adjustment once a month. Let me translate the fine print. "Herb Tea for PMS/Menopause." Now that is love.
I heart this pen! I got several of these for Christmas. I tend to be extremely picky about my preferred writing utensil. Perfection.

No catchy title

I love this purse! The color is perfect.....reminds me of coffee with the perfect amount of milk. Who doesn't love a real Italian leather bag. Alas, out of my price range.
I guess this is the new Polaroid camera. I still love the old ones. Waiting for the pictures to develop brings back fond memories. My hubby has a Polaroid camera (among his growing camera collection) but finding film is a different story. I did notice that you can buy it online. It's so expensive!

An open letter....
Dear chin hair,
Where did you come from and why do you insist on returning? You just showed up out of the blue and have set up permanent residence on my formerly hairless chin.
I am not old enough to have one of your kind quite yet.
Sincerely,
Seriously upset

The rearranger

I love this and would like to have it for our dining room. Our household recently underwent a bit of a transition (I guess not having a kitchen floor is a pretty big transition). I love to move a room and change things up. My mother says that I get bored with things easily. Unfortunately, I am married to a man that doesn't share the same affinity for completely transforming a space. He is a good sport and will humor me. I like things on angles in the corner. Always have. He just shakes his head (much like my father used to do) and mutters "it won't work" under his breath. I have this grand vision for how I want something to turn out but always need help executing it and get frustrated when my idea doesn't work.
To some degree I think I am never content. There is always something I want to change, or make better. There will always be a "and then" with me. Sorry, Mr. Nash. Thank you for understanding.

Friday ramblings

I tried to make one of these about a month ago. I saw them in Lucky magazine and thought to myself I could totally make that! I still think I could have. The problem, finding little tiny pretty feathers. I looked. Hard. Oh well, Urban Outfitters just saved me the headache. I am told it will arrive on my doorstep sometime next week.
Blogging in my head. It is something I find myself doing a lot! I've had many conversations about this with friends and I am assured it is normal. Well, common might be a better word. Throughout the day, I find myself writing blogs in my head or when I am out and about saying "hmmm, that would make a good blog". When I haven't posted in a few days I feel pressure to find something interesting to write about. Does anyone else experience that? I do it to myself. I always turn something that is supposed to be fun or a creative outlet into a chore. I don't mean blogging is a chore. I just mean that I find a way to make everything into a big deal. Anyone who knows me should not be surprised by this. So, I am trying to relax a bit. Especially about the little things. I've been this way for 31 years......somehow I don't think it will come naturally. My parents gave me this great book in high school. Don't Sweat The Small Stuff. I had forgotten about it until yesterday afternoon. It was the only book that fell off the bookshelf as we were moving it (we rearranged the furniture in our bedroom - what a difference it makes!) I am taking that as a sign!
It has come to my attention that certain aspects of my site no longer work with Internet Explorer. I probably won't be fixing the problem anytime soon. Mainly, because I don't know how. Consider yourself informed. If you have noticed anything funny, you might want to consider using Firefox.

Starting the new year out right
New year....new hair. This is actually Christmas 2006. I don't ever remember my hair being that color, but I rather enjoy it. I think it is time for a change. Poor Ashley. She really is patient with my constant indecisiveness and 4 hour hair appointments. No one should have as much hair as I have been cursed/blessed with. In fact, my mother-in-law asked me if I had fake hair attached the other day. We got a pretty good chuckle.
The hubby got a new computer. Apple called and it's official....the old one is dead. Luckily, the hard drive was in tact and we were able to salvage everything. In my mind things should just work forever and when they don't it is just so frustrating. In the computer world his computer was ancient and I guess the situation could always be worse.
I don't really believe in making resolutions for the new year. People always say they are going to go to the gym or start eating right or stop procrastinating. Why do you need to wait until the beginning of a new year to decide to do those things? You should just do them all year round. Anyway, I decided that I did not read near enough books last year. In fact, I only read 5 of the 20 or so books that I bought at the Friends of the Library book sale in February. I read other things instead. Mainly things people loaned me and said "you have to read this". I can't seem to say no. So, unless I ask you to borrow a book please don't loan me anything to read. As you can see I have my hands full with last years books. That being said, I challenge my other half to a read off. Who can read the most books in a year. Are you up for the challenge, Mr. Nash?
Hope everyone has a safe and happy new year. We will be spending it with Wayne and the Flaming Lips. Darn good way to ring in 2009!!

Childhood flashback
I ran across these earrings on one of my new favorite sites this morning. Look familiar? Yup, those are the Lego flowers. I used to love Legos. Fond memories emerge when I think about playing with Legos. It was pretty much the only thing both my brother and I could play with.....together. I remember discovering my first Chickenpox while playing with my friends Lego town. I might add, still have the scar under my left arm. It was the most impressive Lego spread I had ever seen. I remember wondering how long it took someone to put that whole town together and how many Legos it must have taken.
